Laco x Circula present the development of the unique ProLab

When values, tradition, and heritage come together, something truly distinctive emerges.

Watchmaking in Pforzheim has many faces, and two of them are Laco and Circula. For decades, both brands have followed their own path - shaped by craftsmanship, continuity, and a clear understanding of what makes a good watch. Such values don’t appear overnight. They grow over generations, define identity, and guide every decision we make today.

ProLab brings this shared mindset to life: two brands, two approaches, and one understanding of quality and heritage. It is a project that shows what can emerge when tradition isn’t preserved as a snapshot in time, but evolves - shaped by honest design, a genuine closeness to the community, and the confidence to simply act instead of overstate. ProLab isn’t a grand gesture. It is the natural continuation of what both brands have stood for over many years.

The development of

In Pforzheim, the paths of watchmaking often run close to one another, and so do those of Laco and Circula. Over the years, encounters have accumulated: conversations at fairs, shared moments in the same city, and the growing awareness of how much both brands have in common, even while working independently. This led to a deeper exchange between Cornelius Huber (Circula) and Uwe Rücker (Laco).

From this closeness, the joint anniversary year of both brands, and the desire to consciously push beyond familiar boundaries, ProLab emerged - a project rooted in genuine exchange, showing what becomes possible when two brands bring their strengths together.

The name ProLab intentionally echoes “collab” - a collaboration that goes beyond the ordinary. At the same time, it brings together the roots of both brands: the Pro from Circula’s ProTrail and Laco’s PRO models, and the Lab, symbolizing a shared space where ideas are allowed to grow. A space for testing, combining, refining - free from fixed model boundaries and open to thoughts that might otherwise remain overlooked.

In this way, ProLab became an experimental exchange between two brands who aren’t afraid to try something new and push their thinking forward together.

DNA becomes design

The original idea was to create a single watch together. But as the process unfolded, it became clear that two models would express far more precisely what Laco and Circula each stand for and how naturally their approaches complement one another.

This led to two independent designs that reveal their full character only when seen side by side. Proportions, surfaces, and details are deliberately aligned creating a sense of kinship without diminishing the individuality of either watch.

A shared detail on the caseback makes this connection visible: two golden dots marking the original locations of both brands. A subtle nod to their common origin. This is complemented by a golden coin that carries the same limited-edition number as the watches in the set, completing the project as a unified whole.

The ProLab Sand

The ProLab Sand combines the distinctive case of the Laco PRO series with a warm dial inspired by classic fieldwatch design. The dark sandblasted 40 mm stainless-steel case features Laco’s signature matte finish, reducing reflections and giving the watch its distinctively rugged character. With 20 ATM water resistance and a screw-down crown, it remains reliably capable in any situation.

The sand-colored dial draws on the design language of the Circula ProTrail series: a fine circular texture at the center, surrounded by calm, matte surfaces that ensure clear orientation. The entire outer ring is coated with Swiss Super-LumiNova Old Radium, creating a warm and even glow in the dark. Thermally blued hands with BGW9 luminous material provide a precise, cool contrast.

The result is a contemporary fieldwatch with a warm, individual character -combining functionality with an unmistakable aesthetic touch.

The ProLab Schwarz

The ProLab Schwarz combines the distinctive case design of the Circula ProTrail series with the clear visual language of a classic Type B pilot’s watch. The 40 mm stainless-steel case is specially hardened to 1,200 Vickers, giving it exceptional scratch resistance- ideal for everyday use. A screw-down crown and 15 ATM water resistance further emphasize its functional character.

The deep black dial follows the traditional layout of historical observation watches: minutes on the outer ring, hours 1–12 on the inside. Despite its classic structure, the dial gains a modern, individual expression through the striking Circula typography and the fine circular texture at its center. Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 on numerals, indexes, and the thermally blued hands ensures impressive luminosity and excellent legibility in any light.
