Some watches want to stand out. The Augsburg Grau 39 wins you over more quietly: matte gray dial, gray leather strap, light-toned steel – a seamless color harmony that suits a tweed jacket as well as a white shirt. It is the compact gray pilot watch of the BASIC collection.
Then comes the second look. The hands are heat-blued and, depending on the light, shimmer in deep blue or appear almost black – a detail rarely found in the BASIC series. When darkness falls, numerals and hands glow blue-green; by day the luminous material remains an inconspicuous white.
The dial follows the type A design of pilot watches: large hour numerals, the triangle at 12 o'clock, nothing to distract from reading the time. At 39 mm the watch sits in balance even on slim wrists, and the automatic movement keeps it running as you wear it.
While the ORIGINAL series preserves its historical models, the BASIC takes a free approach to the classic instrument watch – and the Augsburg Grau is a fine example of this. A pilot watch for those who would rather show style than claim it. It comes in a gray zip case.
