Black on black: the Altenburg 42 is the black pilot watch of the BASIC collection with a type A dial. Its stainless steel case is black-coated, and the dial and leather strap pick up the same tone. Only the light numerals stand out from this dark whole – a pared-back, almost technical look.
The dial follows the pilot watches of the 1940s: large hour numerals, the triangle with two dots at 12 o’clock, nothing superfluous. In the dark, the numerals and hands glow; by day, the contrast ensures quick orientation.
With the Altenburg, the Pilot Watches BASIC collection shows just how modern the historical instrument can look. The ORIGINAL series stays with matte steel and the proportions of its historical models; the Altenburg goes one step further: curved lugs, a flat sapphire crystal, a black surface. Through the sapphire crystal case back you can watch the automatic movement at work.
The black riveted leather strap completes the picture. A watch for anyone who prefers a dark, urban look.
